Deja Vu for The Cleveland Browns

As if the Browns haven’t had a hard enough time this season, the refs found a way to make things worse at the end of their last game. When Shayne Graham kicked his game-winning field goal in overtime, it appeared to me that he actually missed the chip shot field goal wide right. This would have probably resulted in a tie between the Browns and the Bengals, but that, of course, is not the case.

Believe it or not, this is not the first time I have seen the Browns get screwed with an overtime field goal.

23 years ago, in the 1986 AFC Championship, Rich Karlis of the Broncos had a similar type of field goal called good. His field goalĀ karlis appeared wide left to me, but the refs did not see it that way. This game is known for “The Drive,” which was John Elway’s amazing 98-yard game-winning drive that sent the Broncos to the Super Bowl. If the field goal is not called good, the course of history could have been drastically altered, as this is where the legend of John Elway was officially born.

Those poor Cleveland Browns.

Take a look at both of the kicks, and tell me what you think. (The 2 links above show each of the kicks. Pause the Karlis kick at :58 and look at the left upright, which is your right on the screen)
