What a game! It had it all.
Extra innings, plays at the plate, strike outs with the bases loaded, you name it. The 163rd game for the Tigers and Twins was certainly one to remember. They each played their hearts out, and both teams definitely played well enough to win this game and play the Yankees in the playoffs.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, both teams could not win this game. The Tigers who blew a 7-game lead to get into this game in the first place, did better than I could have ever expected. They were clearly focused, and distractions such as Miguel Cabrera’s drunken weekend did not matter.
When it came down to it, the Tigers played with the mentality of one game at a time. They needed to block everything else out, andÂ
they did just that. However, even with their valiant effort, it was not enough to overcome the fighting Minnesota Twins.
The Twins have shown unbelievable persistence and resiliency just getting to play this game, and they showed that kind of battle power throughout this final game. There were times when it looked unlikely that the Twins would pull it out, but they kept chipping away little by little, making the necessary plays that they needed to keep them alive.
If you watched this game, you saw exactly why the Twins are the team going to the playoffs, and why the Tigers are not. It’s no knock on the Tigers, but the Twins were able to show a little bit more.
At the end of the day, a little bit more is all it takes when it comes down to one game.
