As the St. Louis Cardinals were 1 out away from claiming game 2 at Chavez Ravine, (my favorite stadium name, by the way) a fly ball
was hit to left field. When the ball approached outfielder Matt Holiday, he had run too far in, and the ball proceeded to hit him in the stomach.
Ouch! That’s not the pain of the ball, but the pain of defeat and failure felt by Matt Holiday who opened the floodgates to a Dodgers 2-out rally that gave them the victory and a 2-0 series lead.
The depressing look that Matt Holiday had on his face reminded me of the infamous screw-ups such as Bill Buckner and Scott Norwood. Of course each of those guys blew it in the championship, but I cannot help but think of them anytime a player is so clearly responsible for his team losing.
Man I would not want to be that guy!
There is sure to be an insomniac from the baseball world tonight, and his name is Matt Holiday.
