After watching the conclusion of the Broncos-Patriots game, I was really surprised about what had just taken place. Not only was I  surprised that the Broncos beat the Patriots, but I was stunned to see Kyle Orton outplay Tom Brady straight up. Yes, they are each facing different defenses, and the Broncos are considerably better defensively, but Kyle Orton and Tom Brady shouldn’t even be in the same league.

To me, it is more of a concern for the Patriots, than it is encouraging for the Broncos.

Of course the Broncos have to be excited about the way Orton played, as he played within his capabilities and got his team a hard-earned victory, but the Patriots need to seriously wonder if Tom Brady is ever going to be the same again. Whether it’s his knee or the fact that he is just not comfortable yet, Brady is missing some very basic throws that most quarterbacks should make. He missed out on at least 2 pitch-and-catch touchdowns that he would normally make, and that is what the difference can be in a game like this.

If the Patriots want to be successful moving forward, Brady is going to need to show improvement. Believe it or not, because of the simplicity of the throws that he missed, he actually seemed like a liability to the Patriots against Denver. Your team cannot afford games like that in a 16-game season when every game counts. If you have a real chance to win a game, you need to do it.

Being that it’s only week 5, Brady has time to correct some fundamental mistakes, so that he could get his team back to their full potential. If Brady does not correct those mistakes, I would be interested in seeing what Belichick would do about the situation. Sure, Brady has won 3 Super Bowls, and he is one of the best quarterbacks when it comes to winning, but if he does not help this team win as much as he did before, Belichick will have to figure out a new game plan for this team.

If you think Brady is going to benched any time soon, you have another thing coming. At most, I see the Pats trying to establish more of a running game to take the pressure off of Brady until he gets back to full form. If he never gets back to full form, maybe this team will just become more a power running team. They have the backs to do it, and at the end of the day, if it is an effective way for the team to win, it will be implemented.

All I know is that the Patriots will have their situation figured out before the season is all over. That is a guarantee that I can make.
