If you haven’t already heard, Jaguars’ receiver, Mike Sims-Walker, was deactivated for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks because
he missed bed check on Saturday night. The reason that Sims-Walker missed bed check was because he got a visit from somebody of the female persuasion, and their time together lasted a little bit longer than expected.
To me, Sims-Walker did what most people would do in that situation: He gave in. However, if Sims-Walker wants to ever make it as a top-flight receiver in the NFL, he has to learn how to fight off his emotions when he knows it’s wrong.
Sims-Walker is still young, and he is going to make mistakes. The key question is, “Will he learn from his mistakes, or will he continue to to put his needs before the team’s?”
As long as Sims-Walker can admit he was wrong, and he tries his best to avoid conflicting situations, he can grow from this experience. He has played some great football this season, and he is clearly the Jaguars’ number one target on offense. If he lets his success go to his head, and he continues to do things that hurt himself and his team, his coaches will not put up with it. Guys like that are team killers, and there is no room on an NFL team for them.
Right now, I am going to give Sims-Walker a pass, since he is young and it is his first slip up. If it becomes a trend, though, Sims-Walker will become that receiver that had all of the potential to be great, yet he never seized his opportunity.
The ball is in your court, Mike.
Will you learn, or will your career go to the dumps?
The choice is yours.
