Following CC Sabathia’s game 4 victory against the Angels, he is now 2-0 in the series, and 3-0 in the 2009 postseason. The Yankees
could not have asked for better performances out of their ace so far, and they definitely made the correct decision when they acquired him this past offseason.
Sabathia is so valuable to this team, who at times, struggles to score runs. Of course, when this team has the bats swinging and the scoreboard lighting up crooked numbers all night long, Sabathia is at his best. He eats up a load of innings, which is extremely important in a tough playoff series. Also, as he showed in game 4, he does not need much rest between starts to be effective.
This team clearly feeds off of his energy, and when he is motoring through games, the hitting seems to come alive. Like I said a while back, Sabathia is so important to this team because ”he infuses them with a winning attitude.” When the big guy shows that he is comfortable on the mound, the rest of the team knows that their job is a whole lot easier because the pressure is off.
To me, Sabathia is the major reason why the Yankees are a much better team than they have been since the last time that they made the World Series in 2003. He is a true ace, and every good team has one. When you have a guy who is as great as Sabathia is, he can lead a team deep into the playoffs just on his own merit. However, when you put the lineup that the Yankees have around him, the team is going to be nearly impossible to beat in a postseason series.
Based on the way the Yankees have played through their first 7 postseason games, they are showing just how true that statement is.
