Is Alex Smith Finally Ready?

Due to ineffectiveness in the first half, Shaun Hill was replaced by Alex Smith at the start of the second half against the Houston Texans. The 49ers under Hill this season have been troubled moving the ball through the air.

San Francisco 49ers v Arizona Cardinals

Smith, in his first action since 2007, played brilliantly as he completed 15/22 passes for 3 touchdowns and a late interception, as the Niners cut a 21 point to deficit to just 3.

Is Smith finally ready to be a quarterback in this league, or is it just an aberration?

I am sure this will play out over the next few weeks and we should find out soon.

In my opinion, Smith will finish the season as the starting QB in San Francisco, and he will lead this team to the playoffs. I think that Smith has had enough time to learn the NFL game on the sidelines, and he is ready to put all of the mental knowledge into physical success on the field.

I am a strong believer in having quarterbacks learn the game on the sidelines before getting thrown into the action right away. I feel that the NFL game is much quicker and tougher than in college, and there needs to be mental preparation before going in to game action right away. If you want to be successful in most things in life, you need to have a plan in order to do well. Playing quarterback, in many situations is no different.

Although the Niners did throw Smith in there right away, he has had enough time away from the field in the last few years to prepare him for the complexities that lie ahead. I do not think that his confidence is yet broken, and the Niners could have a potential gem on their hands.

Would this be a great turnaround success story or what?
