We Could All Learn a Lesson From Mark Sanchez

There was a lot of buzz surrounding the Mark Sanchez hot dog eating incident. If you haven’t heard about it yet, Sanchez was eating a hot dog on the sidelines during the 4th quarter of the Jets’ 38-0 blowout against the Raiders.

New York Jets v Oakland Raiders

Many have said that it is disrespectful to the Raiders, others have said that it is disrespectful to the game of football, especially on the professional level. For me, though, I don’t think that it is so bad. I understand how people could be offended by the action, but given the circumstances – It was a blowout at that point- it wasn’t something that should have been a concern. Plus, Sanchez wasn’t parading around with the hot dog, eating it for everybody to see. He was sitting behind a guy, with his head down, scarfing it down discreetly.

The reason that Sanchez ate the hot dog was because he was hungry and feeling queasy. Somebody handed him the hot dog, so he ate it. Had they given him something else to eat, he would have eaten that instead.

Although Sanchez comes off with a little bit of a swagger, he is not what you would call an arrogant player. He has a ton of respect for the game and his opponents, and he did not try to do anything to offend his opponents that day.

How do I know that? Just read on.

Because Sanchez felt bad about how his action was blown out of proportion, Sanchez decided to donate over 1,000 hot dogs and hamburgers to a soup kitchen, which helps feed the less fortunate.

By Sanchez choosing to turn a bad situation into a great situation, he has shown that he is willing to handle anything that comes his way with a positive attitude. He could have flipped out at the media and demanded that they leave him alone, but that is not what he did. Instead, he decided to use this negative situation to do something positive for the less fortunate. If more people could behave in the same manner that Sanchez behaved with in this incident, the world would be a better place.

Just imagine what this guy will be able to do for the Jets’ locker room in the near future.
