Why is Yankee Stadium Topless?

With rain being a cause for concern for game 1 of the World Series, I have a question to ask: ”Why didn’t the Yankees just build a stadium with a retractable roof?” rain

The Yankees clearly have enough money to spend on anything, and I think that it is absolute negligence that they left their stadium topless. Why in the world would a team that plays in New York not think about having the option of a roof on their stadium? It rains a lot, plus the weather is cold and windy during this time of the year. They always have expectations of making the World Series, so it’s not as if they intended on playing games only in the spring and summer.

Also, having the option of a roof is beneficial for the fans. With a roof on the stadium, the temperature can always be controlled, and everyone could be comfortable. No more umbrellas and no more ear-warmers during those postseason battles. With the amount that the Yankees charge for their games, the fans should at least have the luxury of having a comfortable temperature.

Finally, a retractable roof could prevent a Yankees tragedy in the postseason. In the last round with the Angels, a rain-out nearly cost the Yankees their pitching strategy prior to game 1. Lucky for them, the rain did not come and the game was able to be played. However, had it come, the outcome of that series could have shifted in the advantage of the Angels.

If any games of the World Series are cancelled in New York, and the weather somehow affects the Yankees’ chances of winning it all, the Yankees should just feel dumb, knowing that all they had to do was build a retractable roof.
