If you have been sleeping all the way through the NFL season, the New Orleans Saints are 13-0. The only team that the Saints have left on their schedule with a winning record is the Dallas Cowboys. As I see it, the only way the Cowboys have a chance to beat the Saints is if they lay low, practice hard, and catch them off-guard. I guess Roy Williams doesn’t see it that way, though. When asked about the undefeated Saints, Williams had this to say:
“Might as well crown them, right? They’re undefeated. It’s December. We don’t have a chance.”
“This is a two-round fight, and this is just the first round, in my eyes. I don’t know about everybody else, but I think we’re going to see this team in the playoffs down the road. If we pack our bags and show up in New Orleans on Saturday night, we should be victorious.”
In my opinion, Williams’ comments are both dumb and cowardly.
First of all, why would you want to give the Saints any more motivation? Like I said earlier, the best chance Dallas has to win this game is to catch the Saints off guard. By running his mouth and disrespecting New Orleans, he is doing the exact opposite.
Secondly, his comments are cowardly because his team is not expected to win. If they lose, nobody will be surprised, as the Saints are already 13-0. Nobody will bring up his comments because there is so many other things to talk about, like Dallas’ December struggles for instance. On the other hand, if the Cowboys win, there is a good chance that people will say that Williams made a great call. To say that you are going to beat the 13-0 Saints, and then to go out and do it, people will probably say that his attitude boosted the team.
I just think that Williams chose a favorable situation to make a ‘bold’ prediction. Either way, Williams is most probably not going to get any flack for what he said. Except from me, of course. I am going to hold Williams to his ‘bold’ statement, and if it turns out to be wrong, I am going to give him ‘the business.’ But don’t worry, Roy, there’s no pressure.
