Raining 3′s Courtesy of JR Smith

Last night, Denver Nuggets guard, JR Smith went off. Smith came off the bench and scored 41 points against a very good Atlanta Hawks team. The thing that stood out the most was his 10 three-pointers. Believe it or not, the 10 three-pointers are not his career-high. Actually, his career-high is 11 three-pointers, which he made against the Kings at the end of last season. When a player has games like that coming off of the bench, you realize that he is a streaky shooter, who, when locked in, is almost impossible to defend. I just feel bad for the defender who has to guard him when he gets ”in the zone.” That guy stands no chance at all.

Following the game, Smith had this to say about his performance:

“When I get hot like that, nobody can touch me. I just throw the ball towards the basket, and it finds its way into the hoop. I reach this level where I feel like I have no control, and it just happens on its own. If I can do that come playoff time, the Nuggets will be in great shape. I can guarantee that.”

When asked how he gets in that groove, Smith had something noteworthy to say:

“Keep this on the down-low, but before the game I have a little bit of Hennessy, which, for some reason, gives me a great shooting touch. When Ron Artest came out and admitted his Hennessy issue, I thought he was going to throw me under the bus as well, but fortunately he didn’t. But the thing about drinking before the game is that it’s tough to do without people catching you. That’s why I am not scoring 40+ a night on a regular basis. But let’s just keep that between you and me.”

That is quite shocking to say the least. But let’s just keep that between you and me.

Below is a picture of JR Smith making it rain 3′s. If Smith can get hot at the right time for the Nuggs, they truly have the ability to knock off any team on any given night. Hopefully for Denver, he can play like that against the Lakers some time down the road. Boy, would they love that!
