One of the headlines from the NFC Championship game that has fallen through the cracks is Darren Sharper’s revenge against his former team and his former teammate.
Darren Sharper, who was a part of the Minnesota Vikings for 4 seasons, has the fortunate opportunity of knocking off his former team to go to the Super Bowl. Leading up to the game between Minnesota and Dallas, Sharper was interviewed, and he implied that he wanted to meet his former team in the NFC Championship game. He said that it added a little more excitement, and that he would enjoy seeing the familiar faces across the football field.
One of the familiar faces that Sharper will see is Vikings’ QB Brett Favre, who was a teammate of Sharper’s in Green Bay for 8 seasons. Favre and Sharper got along as teammates, and they even spoke occasionally after Sharper left Green Bay. In fact, the two spoke prior to Favre signing with the Vikings. Sharper told Favre that Minnesota had all the pieces for a Super Bowl team, and that it would be a smart choice on his part if he went there. With the Vikings just one win away from fulfilling Sharper’s prophecy, Sharper is now hoping that his statement was just a figure of speech.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Sharper’s ties to Favre and the Vikings will play a role in this game. He knows the tendencies of certain players because of the countless practices and time he has spent with them. And in a game like football, where the slightest movements and knowledge can be a huge advantage over your opponents, it can actually be the difference in which team goes to the Super Bowl.
