If you watched the Super Bowl in 2007, when the New York Giants faced the New England Patriots, you are probably aware that Jeremy Shockey, who was then a member of the Giants, did not participate in the game. The reason why Shockey did not play in that epic game was because of a broken leg, which he suffered in December of that season.
Well, as this year’s Super Bowl rolls around, Jeremy Shockey is yet again on one of the two teams that will play in the game, and he is also dealing with an injury just like in 2007. However, what separates this season from the 2007 season is that Jeremy Shockey is not going to let an injury get in the way of his participation in “The Big Game.”
After Shockey’s nagging right knee was checked out by Dr. James Andrews, Shockey said that he would not miss the Super Bowl, even if his knee were to hurt more than it already did.
“There’s no holding the reins back,” Shockey said, via the AP. “I’ll do everything I can, even it that requires hurting myself, to win the game because you got a lot of time to rehab and things of that nature to get right in the offseason.”
I am not sure if Shockey’s absence from the 2007 Super Bowl has anything to do with this year’s decision, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did. It’s not every year your team makes it to the Super Bowl, and even though it might appear that way to Shockey now, he knows better. If he sits out this Super Bowl, he may never have another chance to be a part of a Super Bowl for the rest of his career. If that means he injures himself worse because of playing, I am sure Shockey will be willing to deal with that.
