George Karl Disses Carmelo Anthony

Coming into Sunday’s matchup with the San Antonio Spurs, the Denver Nuggets were without their star player, Carmelo Anthony. But despite the absence of their so-called “star player,” the Nuggets were able to beat down the Spurs, on the road, by a score of 103-89. After the game, the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, George Karl, was asked about his team’s performance, and how they were able to be so successful without Carmelo in the lineup. Karl’s response may shock you. Here it is:

“Everybody makes Carmelo out to be some sort of superstar or something. I coach the kid, and I can tell you straight out that he’s not as good as advertised. Sure he could put up big numbers, but what would he be without me? Zilch. If you threw him in Pop’s (Gregg Popovich) system, this guy would never sniff an All-Star Game. I am sick and tired of ‘Melo getting all the credit, when it should really be directed at me. So how were we able to beat the Spurs on the road without him? It’s simple. I WAS STILL THERE. The players do not matter when you have a spectacular coach like myself. You know what? We would probably be better off if we traded the chump.”
