As I watched Kansas play Kansas State over the weekend, I couldn’t help but notice something that was very funny. The Kansas State head coach ran onto the court and chewed out the referee for an unfavorable call, yet the ref did not give him a technical foul.
Upon seeing this restraint by the ref, former head coach Bobby Knight, who was calling the game for ESPN, said, “That was a great move by a good official.”
Of course Knight finds favor with the ref who doesn’t T-up the big mouth head coach! Knight was known for his crazy raids and antics, so it is only fitting that Knight feels that this head coach, who was a mild version of himself, should not have gotten a tech. What this showed me is that Knight always felt that his actions were justified (even the chair-throw), and he thought the refs were crazy (for giving him technicals)… not the other way around.
I just think it is funny to see Knight’s true colors come out. He is not going to curb his enthusiasm for anyone, and this was a prime example of that. He is going to say whatever is on his mind, and that is what makes good entertainment.
So Bob, what’s your take on Bill Self‘s tie?
Because I feel like it, here’s Bobby Knight‘s Top 10 video.
