Tiger Woods has been in the news for much more than his golf in recent months, but he will be hoping that The Open Championships at St Andrews will remind everyone that he can create headlines for being the best player in his sport.
The World No.1 has certainly made a solid start to proceedings in Scotland, with a score of 67 in his opening round. At the time of writing, this leaves him four shots adrift of early leader Rory McIlroy.
Speaking about what has been a low scoring start to the tournament, Woods admitted that it is ‘awkward that you have to be at five under to be in the top 10’ and that he hasn’t seen a major like this in quite some time.
He went on to say that the players were ‘taking the course apart’ in conditions that suited low scoring golf. The wind was nonexistent and the rain stayed away, meaning scores were much lower than many Golf Betting experts had predicted.
As for the new putter Woods has been using, he said that he was happy with it because it was a day where he ‘made a lot of putts’ despite having to ‘put a little more hit in the stroke’.
Woods is aiming to become the first player to win the Open at St Andrews on three successive occasions of course and after his first round, online betting pundits certainly won’t be ruling it out.
The American seems to be relaxed and focused on the job in hand. As long as he stays in contention with a few holes to go on Sunday, you just know that he has a superb opportunity to make history.
