From Nowhere To World Number One

Martin Kaymer hadn’t even won a professional golf championship until 2008 but has since upped his game to win his first major, whilst also taking his place as a key member of this year’s successful European Ryder Cup team. Based on this rise to fame, it would perhaps take a brave man to bet against Martin Kaymer finishing in the top two at the Andalucia Masters in Valderrama, in the process overtaking great players such as Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, and Lee Westwood to claim the title of official world number one.

Should Kaymer achieve this feat, he will become the first German in over 20 years to occupy top spot in the golf rankings and the player whose achievements he would be emulating is a man who is not easily forgettable: the great Bernard Langer.

Whilst Kaymer is now the man helping to front the German Golf Association’s bid to host the 2018 Ryder Cup, and is also clearly enjoying a celebrity status that he could only have dreamed of until very recently (particularly since golf is a fairly unpopular sport in his native country), he will need to make sure that he continues to concentrate on the one thing that has brought him recognition (and presumably quite a fortune too) and that is his ability on a golf course.

With Tiger Woods showing the entire Online Golf Betting world that distractions in a golfer’s personal life can badly affect their professional career, Kaymer will need to make sure that he is not seduced by the same sort of madness that caused Tiger Woods to throw away the talent and ranking position that he spent many years perfecting and achieving.

If Kaymer can manage to repel the trappings that fame can bring, this talented young man will no doubt find himself in the Golf betting odds spotlight for a few more years to come – and for all the right reasons.
