For those of you who haven’t heard yet, Terrell Owens has announced that he will be ready to make his comeback to the NFL ‘in a month or less.’ Owens had offseason knee surgery, and there have been many people questioning if “Team Obliterator” (as Skip Bayless calls him) would ever come back to the NFL.

During his sit-down conversation with Steven A. Smith, and what appears to be his family members, Owens used his silly antics to play with Steven A’s emotions by telling him first that he would be retiring, then by saying that he was joking and really thinking he’ll be ready to come back “soon.” The way that Owens jerked at Steven A’s emotions was a classic example of an old player who was trying to create buzz about himself to make others actually care about him.
Remind you of anybody?
How about Brett Favre?
Well, the funny thing is, I checked out some classified files of Owens’ internet activity, and the truth is that he’s been dealing with Brett Favre, and he is using him as a mentor. Now that Favre is too old to create a buzz around himself, he is teaching Owens how to do exactly what he did during his last few years in the league. It’s like a player who retires and becomes a coach, but instead of Favre teaching young quarterbacks the art of being a gunslinger, he is teaching old players the art of old-man self-promotion.
Great job, Brett! And great choice for a mentor, Terrell!
